Retreat
Featuring Abuela Cristina
Maracame of the Wixárika (Huichol) tradition, Sierra Madre, Mexico
NOVEMBER 18-23, 2026
This retreat offers a space to step out of the noise, reconnect with yourself, and experience ancestral wisdom and practices that support real, lasting shifts. We welcome both men and women.
Featuring Grandmother Cristina, a traditionnal medicine woman, a maracame of the Wixárika tradition (Huichol), born in the sacred lands of Jalisco in northern Mexico. Her lineage comes from a community that has safeguarded, since time immemorial, the desert where the sacred cactus lives : Hikuri, known as peyote.
Frida Lopez, is a Mexican woman, devoted to the healing path and to the preservation of ancestral knowledge. Her path has been shaped by more than ten years of walking with native tribes and communities such as the Lakotas, Q’eros, Wixárikas, Huicholes, Shipibos, and Comcáac.
Set on ancestral land in the heart of nature, this retreat is an invitation to step away from your usual rhythm and enter a space designed for slowing down, reconnecting, and listening more deeply. Surrounded by lush jungle, a private cenote, and expansive ocean and jungle views, you will be immersed in an environment that naturally supports a return to yourself.
Guided by Marakame Tsikurima, Frida Flores and Laurence McEvoy, you will be held in integrity, respect, and profound care. We are united by our deep reverence to life and profound desire to protect, preserve and transmit ancestral knowledge. Our common intention is to bring you back into right relationship with yourself and with life, by offering a space where you can slow down, reconnect, and experience a deeper sense of presence and alignment.

Meet your guides
Grandmother Cristina is a traditional medicine woman and maracame of the Wixárika people. A maracame is a traditional spiritual guide, healer and ceremonial singer entrusted with carrying the ancestral teaching of the (Huichol), who call themselves the Wixárika or “the healing people.” They are an Indigenous nation of the Sierra Madre mountains in western Mexico. For countless generations they have tended the land where Hikuri, the sacred cactus known as peyote, grows. Their people work with this medicine in ceremonial settings to pray, heal, sing and commune with the spirit world.
Born on the sacred lands of Jalisco, Abuelita Cristina was raised within this living tradition. Her role as a maracame carries the responsibility of safeguarding the ceremonies, songs, prayers and pilgrimages that sustain the spiritual legacy of her people. Her life has been dedicated to service: to healing, to the medicine and to the preservation of ancestral knowledge passed down through her lineage.
This retreat marks the first time she leaves Mexico, making her presence a true honor for participants. She is accompanied by Frida Flores, who has studied with her for many years. Together they are devoted to preserving and sharing this ancestral knowledge in a way that honors its roots with respect, coherence and responsibility. Their ceremonies and teachings are not performative or touristic, but an expression of a living tradition offered with sincerity, discipline and a deep love for the people and the land.
Frida is a Mexican woman devoted to the healing path and to the preservation of ancestral knowledge. For more than ten years she has walked and learned with Indigenous communities such as the Lakotas, Q'eros, Wixárikas, Huicholes, Shipibos and Comcáac. Through this time she has received their teachings and medicine, listened to the guidance of grandmothers and grandfathers who carry traditional wisdom and cultivated a deep relationship with Hikuri, the sacred peyote of the Wixárika Nation. For a decade she has joined the pilgrimage to their sacred lands, offering prayers, participating in ceremonies and learning the true meaning of service grounded in humility, discipline and devotion.
Her work honors clarity, healing and the reconnection of the heart. She brings the teachings she has received directly from the Earth and from her elders, sharing them with integrity and respect. During the retreat she accompanies Grandmother Cristina in the peyote ceremony and guides several traditional spaces including a cacao ceremony, a Temazcal, a clay ceremony and a traditional herbal limpia. She holds the sacred fire, supports participants with prayer and song and offers practices that help bring calm, grounding and coherence.
Frida’s role is to create a safe and authentic environment where participants can reconnect with themselves, with the land and with the ancestral teachings that have been carried through generations. Throughout the retreat she also supports the integration process with Laurence, helping each person bring the wisdom received into their everyday life in a clear, grounded and accessible way.
Laurence has been traveling the world while studying under Michelle L. Gerrior for more than fourteen years. Mme Gerrior is a traditional medecine woman and keeper of ancestral moral code from the Gerrior-Avery lineage, descendants of the MuisMembourtou, (Nova Scotia, Canada). Through this long apprenticeship, Laurence has learned a body of teachings rooted in traditional shamanism, natural law, moral discipline, and a profound respect for the living world. Her training includes the mastery of the mind, the art of alignment, and the practice of traditional energy healing as taught within this lineage. These teachings have shaped the foundation of her spiritual path and continue to guide the way she walks in service.
During the retreat, Laurence acts as a bridge between the ceremonial space and the participants. She supports the group with presence, clarity, and grounded guidance. She helps create a safe field where each person can relax into the experience and navigate the ceremonies with confidence and respect. Laurence also facilitates integration, helping participants understand the teachings, the natural laws, and the subtle inner movements that arise during the retreat. She ensures that the entire process is held with coherence, harmony, and deep care for the sacred.
CACAO CEREMONY
Cacao is an ancestral Mayan medicine used in ceremony to support connection and heartfelt presence. It contains natural compounds that gently increase circulation, which creates warmth, openness, and emotional clarity. Cacao calms the nervous system and helps you return to a steady and grounded state. It guides you back to the quiet truth and pure feeling of your own heart.
HIKURI (PEYOTE)
Peyote is considered by the Wixaritari as a master spirit, a messenger that connects the heart with inner truth. It is a medicine of deep introspection, clarity, and presence. It opens understanding, cleanses the spirit, strengthens the heart, and reminds one of the path of prayer. In this tradition, Hikuri is a living being that teaches how to listen to silence, look within, and walk with humility. This ancestral medicine does not take you out of consciousness. It brings you deeper into your own sense of presence with a clear mind and an open heart.
TEMAZCAL (SWEAT LODGE)
A Temazcal ceremony is a sacred process of renewal through the harmony of all the elements, where volcanic stones known as “abuelitas”—the grandmothers—carry ancient wisdom from the center of the Earth, awakened by fire and shared with us inside the lodge; the Temazcal itself, shaped like the womb of Mother Earth, becomes a space of rebirth where we release what no longer serves us and reconnect with our essence, supported by fire that heats and activates, water infused with medicinal herbs that transforms into healing steam, earth that grounds and holds us, and air that moves through our breath as sacred life force, guiding us through chants, prayer, and intention to remember who we truly are.
HERBAL LIMPIA
A traditional cleansing with medicinal plants that clears energetic heaviness and restores balance to the body and mind. It creates a feeling of lightness, clarity, and renewal.
MAYAN CLAY RITUAL
A communal ritual of cleansing and renewal, practiced with sacred clay and the crystal-clear waters of the land. This ritual purifies the body and spirit, releases stagnant energy, and awakens vitality. It is a moment of connection, healing, and ancestral wisdom transmission.
INTEGRATION CLASS
An integration class is included in the retreat. The class introduces the Indigenous cosmovision, the Unified Field, natural laws and the high principles and values that guide this path.
MASSAGE, ENERGY HEALING, OSTEOPATHY, IV THERAPY*
Optional therapeutic sessions are available throughout your stay for an additional cost.
Testimonials
“Frida and Carlos are the most soulful, heartfelt couple who in essence lent to our most memorable experiences in Tulum during our retreat and beyond. Every offering was composed with such care and tenderness. You can feel the love and the passion they have for pouring their knowledge and wisdom into each ceremony. Their presence offered the most value to our experience. We felt loved. Cared for. And moreover, we felt stewarded and embraced into ancient traditions that we otherwise would not have fully understood. We leave with full hearts, enriched understanding, and memories that will sing inside our hearts for a lifetime. Thank you..”

An incredible experience with gifted and knowledgable guides. I wish I could find more ways to thanks Frida for her expert and loving guidance in the Temazcal, Sound Healing and Mayan Clay Ceremonies. I host and lead global wellness retreats for women, through my company Soulful Retreats, and I was delighted with the amazing service provided by Frida and her team. We were lovingly guided through emotionally deep ceremonies, which were perfect , even for first timers. Some of the women in my group were a bit hesitant about the Temazcal, but Frida made sure all of us were comfortable and gave a clear talk before on what to expect. The Mayan Clay Ceremony was deeply moving and a beautiful way to close our retreat. I will definitely contact Frida again for any future retreat in Mexico. Her voice, her guidance and her wisdom are deeply felt. There are no words to truly describe the magic she brings to these experiences. Thank you!!

“Frida and her team are precious, pure, knowledgeable and their love is deeply felt during ceremony and in simple conversation. Their care and support is undeniable and anyone blessed enough to have them host a ceremony of any kind is blessed. The two ceremonies I participated in have stayed with me for weeks. Feelings of deep love, trust, interconnectedness, faith and self acceptance and a sense that I have a duty, to hold such wisdom and gifts in my heart and be a steward on this great Mother Earth. My spiritual practice was ignited and also integrated in a way that I could bring back to my real life in a way I didn’t know was possible. I the deep love and gratitude, thank you both and Grandmother. I’m forever thankful..”
